Habersham Museum
Objective

An advertising agency came to E4 Design senior exhibit consultant, Don Lipke, with a special request- design Habersham Electrical Membership Corporation’s lobby area to feel like a museum. Because there was not a single museum in the small community of Habersham, this task was especially close to many hearts; Habersham EMC declared that designing their lobby would be a project “for the whole community.”

Solution

Lipke ran with the project, determined to come up with a lobby design that would showcase the deep ties and longstanding relationship the people of Habersham have with their community. Citizens of Habersham County donated a variety of historic items and other relics from the community to this special project; however, it became especially challenging to match the existing reception desk area to E4’s antiquated arrangement. An additional client wish called for a space for Habersham EMC’s literature display racks, which were complete with a graphic presentation on the opposite side. The lobby also needed to be “kid proof,” or durable against the dishevelment children are known to cause, as parents frequently visited the office with their children in tow.
Result

Lipke and E4’s best efforts were invested into the production of the “museum lobby,” and the in the end, the community was left very happy. Lipke was able to successfully match the colors and styles of the new museum scheme, to those of the previous lobby design. Mounted on the wall was a timeline showing the history of Habersham EMC, and an old-fashioned quilt; and an antique truck gave the lobby its finishing touch. Habersham EMC’s lobby came out so nicely that residents declared it a source of pride for the whole community. It is currently recognized as a place people can go for a walk through the past.
