Objective
Incite an Atlanta based design firm came to e4 design with a special environment project for Carter & Associates: transform their generic lobby area into a very classy environment, resembling an art gallery. The company’s office was located in a high rise building in Atlanta on 17th street, and the lobby could be found on the 12th floor of a Wachovia building. Overlooking the skyline, it seemed fit that such an upscale structure should include a lobby just as extravagant.

Solution
The lobby’s original design was very simple, with sheet rock walls and a standard drop to ceiling. After consulting with Incite and viewing the current lobby, Geoffrey Winslow came up with a plan to give Carter the “art gallery” lobby they envisioned. Geoffrey’s plan of action included upgrading the lobby with features such as hardwood floors, rugs, comfortable seating, a reception desk, and better lighting.
One prominent element of the new lobby was the marble effect wall, which was created by an Italian artist who specialized in effects for backdrop walls; thus giving the radius walls a seamless marble look. To complement this compound curved wall, the design team suggested having black and white photographs of their employees on stand offs showcased across it. This was an extremely challenging requirement to fill, as the wall was a compound curved.
Result
After the project was completed, all parties agreed that they had achieved the feel they were looking for. Components of the lobby area, such as the light colors, seating arrangements, and black and white photographs gave Carter’s lobby the intended art gallery feel. Clients viewing the new lobby area were immediately drawn to the black and white photographs on the walls, just as viewers at an art gallery.
